Polk County Sheriff's Office gets a website!

The Polk County Sheriff's Office's website didn't need a "sprucing up", nor did they need new and interesting features added; they just plain needed a website. kiveo worked with PCSO to come up with a design that reflected a small town feel, but with all of the functionality of a "big city" site. A main goal expressed by the Sheriff's Office was the ability to easily share pertinent information with the citizens and visitors of Polk County in a manner that was easy for the staff to maintain as well as providing timely updates.

The homepage of the new  PCSO site contains links to all of the sites features, including the PCSO Events Calendar, all of the standard forms that people would have to otherwise go to the Sheriff's Office in person to pick up, a link to all of the messages from the sheriff, as well as a link to an auto-updating feed from the NCDOT website with local road conditions and state-wide Silver and Amber alerts.  

Another major feature of the site is the "Tipline" and "Alerts" sections. The tipline will allow anyone with an internet connection to report a crime, anonymously, if they choose. The Alerts section will be used exclusively for County-wide alerts (APB's for those of you who are fans of 21 Jump Street or Remington Steele, like I am).

The events calendar has been further flushed out to allow users to click on an icon or the event's name to quickly add it to their personal calendar. The events that are downloaded from the site are compatible with Outlook, iCalendar and any internet service capable of understanding the iCal standard.  Events are also available as a  Calendar RSS feed. Speaking of RSS feeds - if you want to subscribe to the  RSS feed for the Sheriff's Messages, there's a feed for that as well!

A search mechanism has been included to help users find what they're looking for. All words in the site four letters and over (except the NCDOT feed) are indexed in the site's database and results are presented by relevance according to the number of times the word appears on the page, ties are broken by which content is newest.
